All contestants present a prepared speech, the topic being chosen from the following list:

For all local area heats (i.e. the first stage of the competition) and Regional finals:

JUNIOR  A six minute speech on one of the following topics

• Drugs - the rising tide
• Time for a change
• The good news is ....
• Out of this world
• Deeds not words

SENIOR An eight minute speech on one of the following topics

• The war on drugs
• Race against time
• Man's greatest enemy
• The greatest moments in life
• Vision for the future

Short Notice speeches are required for the State and National finals and for the Regional Finals (i.e. the second stage of the competition, after the local area heats but preceding the State Final) will be advised to each competitor 15 minutes before delivery.
