Critics Resource Manual

The Rostrum Critic is an important part of any Rostrum Club. Without solid, effective and accurate feedback, speakers cannot develop their skills as communicators.

It is a privilege to be selected to be trained as a critic and an honour to be accredited by Australian Rostrum.
Critics are selected by their colleagues not only because of their own high standards as communicators, but more importantly, because of their ability to encourage and offer guidance to other people as they develop their own skills.
While it is a privilege to be a critic the role carries a certain responsibility. There is a responsibility to carry out the process with wisdom, with enthusiasm, with care and with sensitivity.
Like Speakers, Critics also have a path to follow for their own development a path that should never end, for they have an obligation to strive constantly to develop their skills as Critics. This obligation is one which never ceases, but to fulfil it requires assessment, evaluation and feedback from other Critics and from the speakers themselves.
Critics should seek feedback throughout their career as a critic it is counter productive simply to assume that they are 'delivering the goods' they must constantly seek feedback on their performance.
The manual is for all Critics not just those who have been recently trained. It is designed to be a resource to which critics can add their own material and can become a valuable addition to every Critic's library.
