Primary Schools Speaking Competition

Early in Term 1 schools in the A.C.T and surrounding area with classes up to and including Year 6 are invited to Register to participate in the competition. The closing date for Registration is in mid-March. Schools may request a visit from a Rostrum member to talk about the competition. Each School selects a student, usually by competition, to represent their school in time for the Quarter Finals which are held in June. Each school also selects a Reserve in case the Winner of the school competition is unable to attend the Quarter Final. Rostrum can provide an Adjudicator for the School Final, if requested. Rostrum provides the Adjudicators for the Quarter and Semi Finals and the Grand Final.
The Winner and Runner-Up from each Quarter Final go on to the Semi Finals. The Winner and Runner-Up from each Semi Final proceed to the Grand Final which is held at the end of August.
The Winner of The Grand Final in 2009 was Holly Taylor of Cooma North Public School and the Runner-Up was Freya Brent of Radford Junior School. 91 schools registered to participate. 2009 was the 38th year the competition had been run.
